Pitra Paksha in 2025 will begin on 7th September and end on 21st September. This year is very special because it starts with a Moon eclipse and ends with a Sun eclipse. According to astrology and Sanatan Dharma, conflicts in families, financial problems, and life blockages often arise when our ancestors (Pitras) are unhappy.
Pitra Paksha is the time when we can connect with them, seek their blessings, and clear karmic debts.
Who Are Pitras?
Pitras are not just our grandparents or forefathers. They are the roots of our existence—our constitution. Their struggles, sacrifices, and systems are the reason we exist today. Many of them have already taken birth somewhere else, but they remain connected to us as Pitras.
When we remember them with gratitude and perform rituals, it creates a bridge of blessings that strengthens our lives.
Why Is Pitra Paksha Important?
- Pitras look at the canvas of our life and guides us.
- Their blessings remove bigger blockages where life feels stuck.
- The most important day is Sarv Pitra Amavasya (21st September 2025), when the Sun and Moon align in the Virgo sign.
In astrology, Virgo represents debts and karmic dues. Wherever Virgo lies in your chart, debts related to that house need to be settled. On Sarv Pitra Amavasya, we have the opportunity to release these debts and become free.
Those whose Sun and Moon are afflicted by Rahu, Ketu, or Saturn (through aspect or conjunction) are said to have Pitra Dosh. This is considered a result of bad karma from past lives.
Ritual for Sarv Pitra Amavasya
On the last day of Pitra Paksha (Amavasya):
- Sit quietly in your temple at home.
- Remember your Pitras and reflect on the karmas done knowingly or unknowingly.
- Ask for direction and forgiveness.
- Your Pitras may guide you through dreams, people, or sudden realisations about your pending karmas.
- More than just a ritual, create a resource for someone—support someone’s education, job, or wellbeing in the name of your Pitras.
The Three Levels of Puja
- Pitra Puja – for our very existence.
- Devta Puja – for resources and support in life.
- Rishi or Guru Puja – for higher knowledge and wisdom.
Helping someone in the name of Pitras clears karmic debts much more effectively than mechanical rituals.
How to Perform Pitra Paksha Remedies (7–21 September 2025)
Daily Remedies for 16 Days
- Offer raw milk with black til on Shivling.
- Offer water to a Peepal tree and pray for Pitra Shanti.
- Visit a Shivji temple in the evening, light a ghee diya (atta diya) in the name of Pitras.
Family Rituals
- Perform a family tarpan or puja.
- Take the names of known ancestors (like father, grandfather). For those you don’t remember, do it in the name of the entire lineage.
Gratitude Attitude
- Whenever you donate or give something, do it in the name of Pitras.
- Say thank you to the receiver, because he is helping you settle your karmic account. This is called Yachak Bhav.
Who Can Perform These Rituals – Boy or Girl?
In olden times, men performed these rituals because they were the earning members. Today, women also earn and contribute. So, both boys and girls can perform Pitra rituals. The essence is not gender, but resources and pure intention.
Why Family Suffers
Places like Gaya and Haridwar are important for Pind Daan.
- If someone never respected their parents during their lifetime and ignores rituals even after their passing, suffering passes on to the next generation.
- This may show up as addictions, mental illness, chronic diseases, financial blockages, or family disputes.
When you do rituals for your parents, the next generation automatically benefits. Blessings flow through the bloodline (Mars energy). A happy ancestor brings Mangal Karya (good events) at home.
Signs of Pitra Dosh in Horoscope
If you face any two or more of the following, there may be Pitra Dosh:
- No food, no money, or financial struggles
- Bad health or chronic illness
- Debts and loans
- Childlessness or children suffering from illness
- Constant fights in the family
- Accidents or sudden mishaps
For Indians Living Abroad
- You can perform rituals online. (But only giving money on the website is not acceptable)
- More important than the ritual is your time and intention.
- Devote time, remember Pitras, and offer sewa in their name.
Significance of Black Til
Black sesame seeds (til) have the power to absorb negativity.
- For Devtas, we offer ghee and jyoti.
- For Pitras, we use black til to remove obstructions and negative energy.
Conclusion
If you have received this knowledge, it is because of the blessings of your Pitras.
- Remember them at least on Pitra Paksha – just once a year. Because they bless you every day
- Do sewa in their name.
- Keep gratitude in your heart.
By respecting your ancestors, you strengthen your roots. Strong roots create a strong life. Weak roots lead to downfall. This is the essence of Sanatan Dharma.
Pitra Paksha is not just about rituals; it is about connection, gratitude, and resource-sharing in the name of our ancestors. By doing this wholeheartedly, we clear karmic debts, receive guidance, and open doors of prosperity for the next generations.
